Legal & Licenses
This page explains how leasing and exclusive licenses work for beats purchased via NEDStudio. This is not formal legal advice, but a clear overview of how you may use the beats you buy here.
1. General
All beats on this website are original productions created by NEDStudio (“Producer”). When you purchase a beat, you are not buying the full copyright to the instrumental. Instead, you obtain a license that grants you specific usage rights, depending on the license type (Lease or Exclusive).
2. Leasing (non-exclusive license)
A Lease (non-exclusive license) allows you to use the beat in your own song or content, while the Producer keeps full ownership of the beat and may lease it to other artists as well, until an Exclusive license is sold.
- You may record vocals over the beat and release your song.
- You may upload the song to streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.).
- You may monetize the song (streams, digital sales, shows, etc.).
- You may not claim production credit for the beat. Production credit remains with NEDStudio (e.g. “Prod. by NEDStudio”).
- You may not resell, redistribute, or upload the raw beat as your own instrumental.
Note: Any specific stream/view limits, if applicable, will be mentioned in the invoice or license file. If no limits are stated, the lease is treated as unlimited in terms of streams/plays, but still non-exclusive. For large commercial success, see section 4. Credits & royalties.
3. Exclusive license
An Exclusive license grants you the exclusive right to use the beat from the moment of purchase onward. After an exclusive purchase:
- The beat is marked as sold and removed from the shop.
- No new leases of that beat will be sold.
- Existing lease holders keep their previously granted rights – older releases that used the beat under a valid lease remain allowed.
With an Exclusive license you may:
- Release and monetize your song without new artists obtaining the same beat.
- Use the beat in albums, singles, music videos, shows, and online content.
- Register the resulting song with your distributor and PRO/collecting society.
Copyright to the underlying instrumental remains with the Producer unless explicitly transferred in a separate written agreement. For big releases and label deals, see section 4. Credits & royalties.
4. Credits & royalties
4.1 Credits
- Please credit the Producer as “Prod. by NEDStudio” wherever reasonably possible (song description, credits, artwork, etc.).
- Do not remove, hide, or change the production credit unless agreed in writing with NEDStudio.
4.2 Big releases & percentage cut
For most independent releases, the one-time license fee (Lease or Exclusive) is all you pay. However, if a song becomes commercially significant, both sides should benefit fairly.
By purchasing a beat on this website, you agree that you will contact NEDStudio to discuss a royalty split if any of the following occurs:
- The song using a NEDStudio beat reaches 1,000,000+ total streams/views across platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, etc.) or
- The song is picked up by a label, major distributor, or part of a larger commercial campaign (e.g. sync, brand deal).
In that case, the existing license (Lease or Exclusive) stays valid, but you agree to negotiate in good faith with NEDStudio about an additional royalty share on the master recording. As a guideline, this can be a percentage of the net revenue from the master for that song, to be agreed in writing at that moment.
This clause is meant to keep things simple for smaller artists, while still leaving room for a fair deal if a track blows up later.
4.3 Major label / publishing situations
- For major label releases, publishing splits and mechanical royalties should always be discussed directly with NEDStudio before release.
- If a label or third party asks you for producer information, please provide them with NEDStudio’s contact details.
5. What you may not do
- Resell, give away, or re-upload the raw beat by itself.
- Register the beat alone in Content ID systems (e.g. as your own instrumental).
- Claim that you produced the beat.
- Use the beat for any hateful, illegal, or discriminatory content.
6. Terms of Service
- By purchasing a beat on this website, you agree to the license terms on this page and to any additional terms shown during checkout.
- All sales are generally final. Refunds are only considered in exceptional cases (e.g. double payment) and at NEDStudio’s discretion.
- Digital files are delivered via download link and/or email. You are responsible for backing up your files after download.
- NEDStudio may update these terms from time to time. For new purchases, the version of the terms visible at the time of purchase applies.
- If you are under the legal age in your country, you may only purchase with permission from a parent or legal guardian.
- In case of disputes, NEDStudio aims to resolve issues in good faith. If that is not possible, the applicable law and jurisdiction will be the one connected to NEDStudio’s country of registration.
